Ugh, is it just me, or does the introduction either make or break the entire essay??? 🤯

Like, I spend HOURS on the first sentence. It has to be perfect.

If it's boring, the whole thing feels dead, you know? My professor once said the intro is a promise to the reader. If the promise is lame, why would anyone stay? 😩

So I try everything: a shocking stat, a personal story, a question. But then I panic it's too casual. Or too stiff. Where is the sweet spot?

I rewrote my last intro seven times. Seven! By the end, I wasn't even sure what my original point was.

It's a trap. A beautifully decorated trap. 🪤

The sweet spot is: one sentence hook. One sentence context. One sentence thesis. That's it. Don't overthink. The hook doesn't need to be Shakespeare. Just something true and interesting. "Most people think X. But the evidence suggests Y." That works. Stop trying to be brilliant. Try to be clear. Clarity is more impressive than cleverness.
