I'm taking this intro to political science class, and we have to write a 6-page essay on any topic related to American government. I was kinda excited because I actually follow politics, so I chose to write about "The Impact of Social Media on Elections." I thought it was perfect, right? Relevant, modern, lots of stuff online about it. 📱🗳️

I turned in my proposal yesterday, and my professor just emailed me back with two words: "Too broad." That's it. No explanation, no suggestions, just... two words.

And now I'm sitting here like... what does that even mean?? How is it too broad? It's just about social media and elections. Should I pick a specific election? Like 2020 or 2016? Or should I focus on one platform, like TikTok or Twitter? I don't want to email him again and look stupid asking for clarification, but I genuinely don't know how to narrow this down without losing the whole point of what I wanted to say. 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone else had this happen? How do you take a big idea and shrink it down without making it boring or too specific? I feel like every time I try to make it narrower, I end up with a topic thats so tiny I cant find enough sources. It's like Goldilocks... everything is either too big or too small. Where's the "just right" and how do I find it? 😩

Any tips from you seasoned essay writers would be a lifesaver right now. I'm lowkey panicking because this is my first big paper in college and I already feel like I'm failing.
