I struggle with introductions so much. Every time I write one, it sounds like: "In this essay, I will discuss..." My teacher calls that the "laundry list" intro and says it's boring.
I looked up different ways to start and found some that actually seem interesting:
Start with a question: "Have you ever wondered why..." Makes the reader curious.
Start with a surprising fact: "Every year, 1 million plastic bottles are bought every minute." Grabs attention.
Start with a short story: "The first time I failed a test, I was sure my life was over." Makes it personal.
Start with a quote: But my teacher says only use this if the quote is really powerful and relevant.
Start with a bold statement: "School uniforms should be banned." Gets people's attention immediately.
For my college essay, I'm trying the short story approach. I'm writing about the first time I taught my little brother to ride a bike. It felt small at the time but it taught me about patience and teaching.
My friend read it and said "I actually want to keep reading." That's never happened before!
What kind of introductions do you guys use? I need all the help I can get.
