I've been staring at a blank screen for three days. My college application essay is due in two weeks and I have nothing. Every opening I write sounds exactly like what I imagine every other applicant writes. "I've always been passionate about..." "Since I was a child..." "The moment I realized..."
My counselor said admissions officers read thousands of these. They can spot a generic opening from a mile away. She told me to start with a specific moment. Not "I love science" but "The first time I dissected a frog, my hands were shaking so bad I almost dropped the scalpel."
But now I'm stuck again. What specific moment is "good enough"? Does it have to be dramatic? My life is pretty normal.
Please tell me I'm not the only one struggling with this. How did you start your personal essay?
