Has anyone used an AI essay grader before? Is it actually accurate?

I'm working on a big research paper and I'd love to get some feedback before I submit it. I've seen ads for different AI essay grader tools that claim to check grammar, structure, and even give rubric-based scores. Has anyone actually used one? Are they accurate enough to trust?

I found a few options like EssayGrader.ai that offer free plans for up to 25 essays per month, which sounds perfect for testing . They claim their scores differ by less than 4% from human grading . But I also came across some academic research saying AI tends to be more lenient overall and struggles with evaluating things like plot logic and argument quality . One study found AI gave scores about 7.5% higher than human markers on average .

I'm not looking for the AI to replace my teacher's feedback—I just want something to catch obvious issues before I submit. For those who've tried them, do these tools actually help? Or should I just stick to asking friends to read my drafts?

Peter, I tested a few of these for a psych paper. The good: caught some awkward phrasing and gave decent feedback on sentence variety. The bad: completely missed that my counterargument section was weak. Just gave it a checkmark and moved on.
