Can I use a "future resume" format for my leadership essay?

Another prompt I'm considering is the "resume from the future" — imagining it's 2050 and creating my resume with experiences and accomplishments that reflect the leader I've become . After the resume, I have to write a brief reflection: "what decision, experience, or lesson from your high school years do you believe most helped shape this future?" .

I actually love this idea because it lets me be creative while still showing who I am. But I'm worried it might come off as gimmicky. The admissions team says "be creative, but keep it clear" — a unique approach is fine as long as the message is coherent and my values shine through .

For students who've written creative essays: did you take risks with format? How did it go?

The "be creative, but keep it clear" advice is key. Some students try so hard to be unique that their essay becomes confusing. I'd recommend: write the reflection first — the real story of what shaped you. THEN build the future resume around that. That way your creativity is anchored in authenticity. Also, test it on someone who doesn't know you. If they can't figure out what you're trying to say, simplify.
