YES. This is such an underrated skill. I only figured it out last semester when my professor literally showed us two paragraphs about the same topic—one from an academic journal, one from a blog. Same facts, completely different vibe.

Now I literally read my drafts out loud before submitting. If something sounds awkward or off, it's usually a tone problem. Also, paying attention to how authors in my field write has been huge. Economics papers have a totally different tone than sociology ones. Glad you cracked the code!
