How to Make First Grade Writing Paper More Fun?

My little brother is in first grade and he gets so bored with his writing homework. He just stares at the blank first grade writing paper like it's a monster. I've been trying to help him, but he needs it to be fun! Does anyone have cool ideas to spice it up?

I was thinking of letting him use colored pencils for the picture first, or maybe we could cut out magazine letters to paste words on a separate page before he writes them. What motivates your first grader to actually want to fill up those lines? All tips are welcome!

My little sister loves when we use gel pens or markers instead of regular pencils—instant motivation. Also, letting her draw first ALWAYS helps. The picture gets her excited about the topic, then the words come easier. Good luck!
