Hey everyone, 
I seriously need some advice because I think I'm going crazy here. I have a 5-page critical analysis essay due for my lit class next week, and I have spent the last three evenings just... staring. My professor gave us a list of like 30 themes to choose from, and my brain just short-circuits.
How do you guys actually settle on a topic? Every time I think I like one ("The symbolism of the river in Huck Finn"), I start researching and immediately find a bunch of scholarly articles that make me feel like everything has already been said. Then I switch to something else, and the cycle repeats.
Do you go for the topic you personally find the coolest, even if the sources are harder to find? Or do you pick the boring, safe one that has a ton of library database results just so you can get the paper done faster? I'm stuck between wanting a decent grade and not wanting to die of boredom writing it.
Also, any tips for narrowing down a broad idea into an actual argument would be a lifesaver. I feel like I’m drowning in possibilities.
